At Quay West Suites Melbourne we are committed to making a positive impact on the environment, integrating sustainability into every aspect of our operations. We understand that sustainability is an ongoing journey and we continuously endeavour to minimise our carbon footprint. Below are some initiatives we've undertaken to ensure our guests enjoy an eco-friendly stay.
Single-Use Plastic Items
Elimination of Single-Use Plastic: In addition to our guest amenities, we've partnered with a bamboo products company for our room keys and pens. Throughout the hotel, dual waste bins for general and recyclable waste eliminate the need for bin liners, further reducing single-use plastic.
In Room Soap Amenities
Continuing our efforts, we've transitioned to large format amenities, replacing single-use plastic common amenities with eco-friendly pump dispensers throughout the hotel. This move significantly reduces waste generation and aligns with our dedication to environmental stewardship.
In Room Amenities
We are in the process of moving to Dishwashing detergent sheets which are plant based zero waste and are pre-measured doing away with the traditional tablets.
In Room Dry Amenities
We are proud to announce our ongoing initiative to reduce single-use plastics in our guest rooms. In line with this commitment, we have made a significant decision to eliminate single-use dry amenities, taking a bold step towards a plastic-free environment.
We understand the importance of preserving our planet for future generations. By removing single-use plastic amenities such as toothbrushes, combs, and shower caps from our guest rooms, we are significantly reducing our environmental footprint. Instead, guests can request environmentally friendly dry amenities via our Guest Services.
Food Waste & Local Partners
We prioritize reducing food wastage and promoting sustainability in our food and beverage outlets and conferencing department. Our partnerships with local suppliers, focusing on sustainability, support both our environmental goals and the local economy.
We have partnered with Waste Ninja to reduce costs and reduce landfill. To date Quay West Suites Melbourne have diverted waste from landfill at the amount of 2,778 KGs, avoided emissions (CO2e) by 5,278KGs and removed 774 cars from the road in one day. We have also Powered 61 homes for one day through the partnership.
Recent improvements to our mini bar menu include partnering with suppliers who use sustainable packaging and local ingredients.
Recycling and Waste Management
QWSM, our waste management program ensures that all hotel/resident waste is sorted into categories such as co-mingle, cardboard, food waste, and general waste, significantly reducing our contribution to landfill.
Water Conservation
To minimise single-use plastic consumption, we've installed Purezza still and sparkling dispensers throughout our hotel. This innovative system allows us to eliminate the need for single-use bottled water. Guests can now enjoy complimentary Purezza water served in our reusable glass Petalosa bottles, further reducing our environmental footprint.
